Kuttawa is located in Lyon County, adjacent to the west side of Eddyville. It is said to have been named for a Shawnee Indian word meaning “beautiful”.
Known not only for it’s beauty, but also industrial enterprise and commercial progressiveness. In the early days, iron ore found in and around Kuttawa was the source of a boom.
After the final impoundment of Lake Barkley in 1966, Kuttawa had a new beginning; tourism was an important addition, and a new trade.[Photo: Map Dot, Kentucky]
